Thanks to everyone who attended our Alzheimer’s Speaker Series kick-off, My Life: The New Normal. A capacity crowd heard emotion-filled stories from two young women impacted by a loved one’s diagnosis with Alzheimer’s.
Mikayla Askern, a 2016 high school graduate, shared the story of her best friend, her grandfather, and slowing losing him to the disease.
Sara Lemke passionately reflected on the challenges and rewards of being her mother’s primary guardian at a young age. Now 25, Sara has cared for her mother since her high school years when her mother was diagnosed with younger onset Alzheimer’s.
The message from both, live in the present.
Please join us June 28 for our next speaker, Susan Callison. Susan is the program specialist with the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Iowa Chapter and will present 10 Ways to Love Your Brain. The series takes place from Noon – 1 p.m. in the Register Media Community Room located on the first floor of Capital Square.
